Hummingbird magic…

I am not a fan of summer. I find it too hot, muggy, stuffy and very uncomfortable.

Where I live our summers are a mixed bag. Pouring rain, drought, heat waves, cold fronts…oh and windy. Let’s not forget the wind.

There are, however, parts of summer that I do appreciate and love. Sitting on the front porch with my morning coffee and watching the sun come up. Puttering about the garden watching my flowers and veggies grow. Cool summer evenings sitting by the fire while listening the the crickets sing their songs.

BUT without a doubt one of the things that excite me the most is when the Hummingbirds show up after their long journey to the north.

Mid flight

For a few years now I’ve been trying to capture one on camera but not only are they fast, leave every time I show up but I don’t have the patience to sit and wait and wait…oh look something else to look at. I tend to get bored and then distracted and then I miss my opportunity. Last year I got smart and set up a feeder right outside my window and what a show the little guys provide.

With my camera and tripod set up inside I was FINALLY able to shoot one! 230 images in under 5 minutes to be exact.

Stopping at the local watering hole.
I swear he was posing for me!

I hope these photos made you smile. Looking forward to seeing these little guys again next year as, sadly, they have already left for the season.
